Impressions began in England in 1991 with just a handful of programmers and artists led by David Lester, and the determination to establish itself as the premier developer of quality strategy games for the PC. The company has grown to produce more than 40 strategy games, most highly underrated, covering wide-ranging topics from ancient rome (Caesar series), to fantasy strategy (Lord of Magic), business (Air Bucks) and beyond. Their early games invariably suffer from the "spreadsheet syndrome," i.e. too many statistics presented to the player in boring, static screens. They improve with time, however, and Impressions' latest games such as the highly popular Caesar III are a far cry from their early days. Impressions was bought out in 1996 by Sierra On-Line and is now a wholly-owned subsidiary with its own brand name. Related companies: Sierra On-Line, Edcom
