One of the best and most inventive puzzlers I?ve ever played, NetWalk is a great logic game that is now enjoying great popularity on the handheld platform (one of my colleagues in the office would play a quick game on his Palm V whenever noone is looking ;)). Similar to other classic puzzle games from GAMOS, the idea behind NetWalk is easy, although how to achieve it is another story. Your goal on each level is to connect each computer on the grid field to the central server by adjusting and turning the network pieces scattered around. It looks very familiar to Pipe Dreams, but it is arguably more challenging because there are many connections you have to make (i.e. every computer must be connected to the central server, not just one). The game records your score throughout the game, and the less number of moves you make, the higher your score will be. This means that you will be compelled even after finishing a level to replay it in order to find a more optimized layout that increases your score. This means a virtually unlimited number of possible combinations?an amazing achievement for games with such simple rules. Amidst bloated, high-priced, complicated puzzle games that require a lot of horsepower to run, NetWalk's simplicity is refreshing. With three skill levels, the game provides hours of entirely original and addicting play. To add to the difficulty, each computer has its own port that can only be turned one of four ways. NetWalk forces you to plot dozens of steps ahead of time, since a good move on one end of the network could completely shut down computers on the other end. This forces you to keep ?the big picture? in mind as well as mapping out your future moves as far as you can, similar to chess. If you enjoy ?pure logic? puzzle games with no time limit or hand-eye coordination requirements like Tetris, NetWalk is one of the best you will ever find. Simple idea, intuitive controls, and very elegant gameplay. If you have a handheld computer, the game is ideal for those boring moments in the meeting. Two thumbs up, way up! Note: Although GAMOS games are marketed as shareware and the downloadable versions are labeled ?demo?, they are actually full games that are identical to registered version?except for the ?please register? nag screen that shows up occasionally. So download the ?demo? today and register to help support one of the best, and most underrated, puzzle game companies today :) Reviewed by: Underdogs |
