While no Championship Manager (I frequently won games without realising I was fielding 9 or less players), this underdog is still surprisingly playable. The game simulates England's division two soccer league, so Manchester United or Liverpool fans will be disappointed, although the names don't matter much here, since player stats don't affect the game in detail. You won't get much intense poring over statistics in Match Day Manager, but there's much else to compensate. Top feature is the way you see "highlights" of the matches your team plays, complete with commentry from spot on parodies of Des Lynam and Alan Hansen. The rest of the game is dotted with humour, too, especially the wonderful "chairman" whose office I won't spoil for you... Points are lost for the complete lack of any trace of realism, though. The interface is a bit confusing at first, but a delight once you get the hang of it. Plus, it's pleasingly easy to win. Seven out of Ten. If you like this game, try Match of The Day - Bundesliga-- the same game but for the German league.
