QQP before its quite demise in late 1995 was a company that consistently produced great games to great reviews, but was a perennial underdog in terms of sales. I guess this goes a long way toward explaining why a good marketing campaign is instrumental to any product's success. Since marketing was definitely never QQP's strong point, their games were cult classics at best and ignored at worst, and Zaccagnino soon found himself having too many game ideas with too little cash. The subsequent buyout by a cash-flushed but sub-standard publisher American Laser Games (ALS) soon proved to be ill-fated as ALS has neither experience with quality wargames nor interest to give adequate funding to Steve's new game ideas. The disappointing sales and quality of QQP's last games (most notably Battles in Time and The Pure Wargame) combined with ALS' own financial difficulties led to QQP's demise in 1994.QQP in its heyday was known for dozens of intelligent and thought-provoking wargames and strategy games that never (with a few exceptions) sacrifice fun for the sake of realism. Spearheaded by veteran wargamer Bruce William Zaccagnino, QQP games feature a great integration of realism and playability, competent AI, and consistently bad graphics. The hallmark of QQP games, however, is the comprehensive player evaluation and history: every game contains a detailed player history, complete with numerous graphs. Although the subjects of QQP games range from traditional wargame to brainteasers, they all embody this hallmark and a unique "QQP touch." QQP was also a pioneer in multiplayer gaming by offering PBEM (play-by-email) feature in most of its games long before multiplayer becomes a standard in wargames. The greatest QQP games ever produced rightfully held honors in Computer Gaming World's 150 Best Games of All Time list (The Perfect General and Solitaire's Journey); the worst QQP games are still leaps and bounds better than today's average game.
