Ok, let's face it: Factor 5's Turrican II was one of the best games to see the light of day on the Amiga, and probably the best action game ever produced on any platform. Four years (!) after the initial Amiga release, Rainbow Arts released the IBM-PC version of this classic shooter with very little fanfare. How does it compare? Well, surprisingly not that bad at all. Scrolling is ultra-smooth, gameplay is nearly as good, and the graphics – though slightly reworked – are great. I can't tell you about the music as I didn't get it to work on my PCI sound card, but I suppose Sun-Project used a TFMX playing routine to reproduce the original Amiga music on the IBM-PC port and that, of course, would be great as the music was one of the best ever heard in a computer game. Two thumbs up, way up!Reviewed by: Rob | |
