Perhaps the only Microsoft title that didn't sell as well as its marketing juggernaut had hoped, Microsoft Bob is a "home management" program for Windows aimed at making simple household tasks easy to use. Features include using the Bob Calendar and To Do lists to schedule family events, the Bob Checkbook, using the Bob Household Manager, and keeping a password-protected diary. The most touted feature is the "Personal Guide"-- cutesy cartoon characters (predecessor of those annoying paper clip guides in MS Office) that unfortunately came across as insulting the user's intelligence with extreme hand-holding method and weak sense of humor. A worthy effort that failed-- see for yourself why. [An interesting anecdote: This only flop from the marketing giant was headed by none other than Melinda Gates, who at the time was only Bill's girlfriend. This was the only project she ever headed at Microsoft] Reviewed by: Underdogs |
