The Edificeis the worthy winner of the third Annual Interactive Fiction Competition, held in 1997. It's one of the rare games that manage to integrate puzzles with plot seamlessly-- as a caveman in prehistoric times going through mankind's evolutionary stages, every puzzle you come across is the matter of life and death.
