    1. Extract the .zip.
    2. You will now see a file called install.exe
    3. DblClick on install.exe and follow the prompts.

Both install.exe and the games setup.exe files gave runtime error 200 messages (on my PIII 500). If you receive this error do the following:
This error can be fixed with the program tppatch.exe (which can be found on the faq page: www.the-underdogs.org/faq.php). Just open a DOS box at the folder that has the file and type in...

      tppatch install.exe
NOTE: You can download tppatch from here also: tppatch.zip
    4. After the game is installed, dblClick on setup.exe and follow the prompts to setup the sound and other options (run ttpatch with setup.exe if needed).

    5. Copy the crack.com file from your installed from folder to your installed to folder and DblClick on it.
    6. If you DblClick on otb.bat at this point you may see an error message saying that a file is missing. If you receive this message...

As far as I can see the game itself doesn't need phapi.dll. It is used by a small program called memtest.exe (which is probably used to make sure that you have enough conv. memory to play the game). I don't know how much it actually needs, but I was able to run the game from within Win98 with about 572 conv. memory free. If you have around that much you should be fine.

    1. Open the file otb.bat in notepad. Find the line that reads...
      memtest.exe
    2. Change it so that it looks like this...
      rem memtest.exe

(The rem causes that line to be ignored).
    3. Save the file.
    4. Now Dblclick on otb.bat to start the game.

    It should start fine.
    Good Luck!

    From the beginning.

    1. You have 1 big .zip file: extract this with your unzipper of choice to a temporary folder (ie. c:\temp). You now have 9 new .zip files madover1.zip thru madover9.zip

    2. Create 2 new subfolders under the first. Call them disk1 and disk2; you should now have something that looks like this:

      c:\temp
      c:\temp\disk1
      c:\temp\disk2
    3. Copy madover1.zip, madover2.zip, and madover3.zip to the disk1 folder.
Copy madover4.zip thru madover9.zip to the disk2 folder.
Unzip the .zip files into those folders.
Each folder now has an install.exe file and some files that end in .00?

    4. The next part can be done either from DOS or from within a Windows DOS box.

So I opened a DOS box at

      c:\temp\disk1

      typed in:
      subst a: c:\temp\disk1

Went back to Explorer and switched to drive a:

Now DBlClick on install.exe select drive a: as the install from drive and drive c: as the install to drive. I selected the default directory, but any should do.
Follow the prompts until the install is finished.

Go back to your dos box and type in:

      subst a: /D

      Close the DOS Box

If you now go to c:\rowan (that's the default folder) and Dblclick on OL.bat the game will start up, but you can only use the low res graphics.

    5. To get the Hi-res graphics:

      open a DOS box at

      c:\temp\disk2

      type in:
      subst a: c:\temp\disk2

Go back to Explorer and switch to drive a:
DBlClick on install.exe select drive a: as the install from drive and drive c: as the install to drive. Select the same directory here as you used up above.
Follow the prompts until the install is finished.

Go back to your dos box and type in:

      subst a: /D

      Close the DOS Box

If you now go back to c:\rowan and DblClick on OL.bat the game will run...
Actually no it doesn't. A quick look at the read.me file shows that it's missing a file or two. Those niffty Hi-res graphics are VESA based.

Look in c:\rowan\ol and you should see a program called svgavesa.exe. DblClick on this.
As you can see, the choices are older video cards so you will probably have to chose one of the "generic" options. (If you have a VESA driver for your video card (or you can find one, your video card manufactures web page is a good place to start) it needs to be loaded *before* you run svgavesa.exe (i.e open a dos box, load your driver, then run svgavesa.exe all in the same DOS box).
This creates a couple of files in the C:\ROWAN\OL\LIBS640.400\ subfolder.

So if you now go back to c:\rowan and DblClick on OL.bat the game will run...

    6. Only if you are lucky. This thing is a memory hog. I think it requires 620+ of conventional memory as well as Expanded memory.

For a lot of people this is going to be a DOS only game. So boot out to DOS (if you don't have a boot disk you can find a no frills version on the faq page http://www.the-underdogs.org/faq.php )

If you are still having problems check out that read.me file in c:\rowan\ol You may also have to modify your config.sys emm386 line. If you do the game will tell you. Just make the changes that it recommends.

Due to the nature of a lot of modern video cards and their support (or lack of support) for VESA, it is very possible that you will not be able to use the the hi-res graphics.

    Good Luck!

ORION CONSPIRACY, THE

  • Fatal Disc Error

To get past the fatal disc error for Orion Conspiracy, open up Orion.INI in Notepad and change the /dD line to /dC. Substitute C with the appropriate letter for your harddrive :).

  • Memory Error: you need at least 3 MB of expanded memory

    doowopman
    Watchdog

If you get an error that you need at least 3 MB of expanded memory, you can go about fixing this in two ways:

    1. From the command line (either via pure DOS or the Win9x DOS prompt), switch to the directory which you installed the game to (i.e. C:\Orion) and type orion /x- /v400. This will run the game in a lower screen res (640x400).
    2. Right click orion.bat and choose send to>desktop (create shortcut). Right click the shortcut, choose properties, and in the Target dialog box after C:\ORION\ORION.BAT, add /x- /v400, click apply, then OK.

    Enjoy the game!
